Position: Accounting Team Lead (AP focused)

Location: Hybrid (2-3 times at the office per week)

Department: Accounting

Employment Type: Exempt

Work Hours: 8am-4:30pm (30 min unpaid lunch)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Team Lead to oversee our Accounts Payable operations while supporting key accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and audit activities. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with team leadership and process improvement initiatives, making it ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional looking to take the next step in their career.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable Leadership

  • Lead the daily operations of the Accounts Payable team.
  • Supervise, train, and support accounting staff.
  • Review invoices, ERP entries, and vendor payments for accuracy.
  • Resolve payment issues and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and GAAP.

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare financial statements, forecasts, and management reports.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide insights to support business decisions.
  • Support accounting services for affiliated group companies.

Tax & Compliance

  • Monitor sales and use tax compliance.
  • Support annual income tax and transfer pricing documentation.
  • Manage Form 1099 filings and assist with Form 1042 reporting.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and tax regulations.

Audit & Process Improvement

  • Lead annual financial audits and support internal/external audit activities.
  • Review work prepared by junior accounting staff.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to internal controls, operational efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of Accounts Payable or related accounting experience.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is a plus.
  • Japanese language proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking) is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
