Company Overview

A global freight forwarding and logistics provider is seeking a qualified customs brokerage professional to support international import operations. The company provides air and ocean cargo services and works with clients, carriers, overseas agents, and government agencies to ensure timely, compliant, and efficient transportation solutions.

Position Summary

The US Customs Broker is responsible for the timely and accurate clearance of international shipments into the United States. This role manages the full customs entry process, ensures compliance with U.S. import regulations, resolves customs-related issues, and supports clients with accurate guidance on customs procedures, duties, and documentation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage customs clearance for import shipments, including preparing and filing entries through ACE and related systems.
  • Ensure compliance with CBP and other applicable federal agency requirements, including FDA, USDA, and EPA.
  • Respond to and resolve customs inquiries, discrepancies, CF28, CF29, and related compliance matters.
  • Classify imported goods using HTSUS and determine proper customs valuation, duties, taxes, and fees.
  • Review and audit commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and related import documents.
  • Communicate with clients, overseas agents, internal teams, carriers, and government agencies regarding customs matters.
  • Advise clients on import restrictions, quota limits, duty drawback, customs procedures, and duty/tax reduction options.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarding teams to support smooth end-to-end logistics operations from pre-alert to final delivery.
  • Stay current on customs regulations and international trade law changes.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, international trade agreements, HTSUS classification, valuation, and Incoterms.
  • Experience using customs brokerage software and systems, including ACE.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and customs processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in customs brokerage or a related role within international freight forwarding.
  • Experience handling shipments to and from Japan.

Other Details

This role requires regular coordination with clients, overseas partners, carriers, internal logistics teams, and government agencies.

For the Air Import Department, if there are flights arriving over the weekend, the employee will be expected to check the shipment status during the weekend and provide basic instructions or updates through the tracking system.
